Recently, I came across a remark on one of my social media. A user has claimed that prayers are useless. I did not know what made them think that way but I know to myself that I somehow felt sadness inside as I read it.
Maybe people disregard the power of prayers because ultimately they do not believe in the supreme being we talk to when we do. Or maybe they do believe in God but not enough to believe that He is capable of listening to us. Whatever reason they had, I still ended up responding to it through prayer. I had a short conversation with God asking Him to give these people hope.

I know for people who are very logical, prayer can be something pointless. How can we pray to the God who sees injustices and still waits a long time to intervene? How can we pray to the God who seems to let the wicked prosper? I bet they had these thoughts. The only thing I could say is that prayer is a big leap of faith. Praying is trust in someone you haven’t seen, someone you haven’t fully understood but still choose to lean on. Praying isn’t just a “bahala na” but a humble surrender because you know His will be done as it is in heaven.
It’s ironic that instead of being discouraged after reading that comment, I believed more in prayer. I am reminded of its significance in my life because I have confidence that God will make the heart that prays will be the same heart that will praise. The same lips that asked will be the same lips that will give thanks. The same hands that were folded in prayer will be lifted high in praise. When we think of prayer as a conversation with God whether we are waiting for something or when we already received what we hope for, we see it as an important part of our life and not only as a way to ask for a favor. If we have the same heart to ask and give thanks, what’s there to lose in a prayer?
