“For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy.”

St. Therese of Lisieux

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

God’s Word and Prayer come together like bow and arrow. They are equally important in devotedly growing our relationship with God and our spirit. Reading the Bible is our way of knowing God, His plans, Will, and teachings. Likewise, praying is God’s way of knowing us – our worries, concerns, and pains. It is important to be devoted to reading the Bible and praying. It is because it is our communication with God. We have to establish good communication with God for us to see the truth in life – how to live and what to believe.

Here are five reasons why reading the Bible and Prayer is important.

  1. Draws us closer to God

It helps us create an intimate relationship with God. As we understand God more through His words and as we pray to God, knowing that He is listening, we also deepen our relationship with Him. It gives light to God’s will and plans for us.

  1. Gives Light to Our Path

God’s Word brings us teachings that help us identify between the worldly standard and God’s standard. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

  1. Protects Us

It gives us armor that will guard us from evil’s temptation and invitation to sin. God’s steadfast love, goodness, and forgiveness make us empowered and confident.

  1. Makes us Better Christians

It shows us the character of Christ and gives us the complete instruction to the path of Blessedness, to the path of God’s will. How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. Psalm 119:9

  1. Silent Reflection

It also gives us time to reflect on ourselves through the teachings of the Scriptures as the Word meditates in our hearts. And as we pray to God, it makes us speak our hearts with full surrender.

Remember to meditate on God’s Word day and night and to pray devotedly, enthusiastically.
