It’s Okay to Not Be Okay Episode 10

My academic break has started so I decided to watch some Korean Drama again. This time I chose to watch “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” which is one of the most successful Kdramas in 2020. A lot of my friends have told me that it was a great series to watch so out of curiosity and numerous recommendations, I decided to give it a try. Well, if you are reading this, I’ve already finished it and it was really a great one. It made me realize and reflect a lot of things.

One of the scenes I think about a lot is when Munyeong (the one in polka dots blouse) and Gangtae (the one in blue polo) had an argument after Gangtae realized that Sangtae, his brother, actually remembers the day he almost left him to die and drown in freezing water though, Gangtae eventually helped his brother. However, after saving his brother Gangta also almost died from drowning if Munyeong did not show up and choose to help him.

Now that they meet after two decades and as adults, Gangtae asks Munyeong why she saved him and tells her that if she hasn’t saved him, he wouldn’t have to live a painful and miserable life.

I thought at that moment, was it Munyeong’s fault that Gangtae had to suffer a lot from taking care of his brother? Why did Munyeong choose to save him?

I remembered Jesus Christ right then. Why would he choose to save us and let us live here on earth to live and suffer more? Why did he choose to save us? Was he the one to blame that we need to live a despicable life?

I think not.

We are not suffering because he chose us to live. We are suffering because we have lived a sinful life. But though we are living a painful life here on earth, he has made a way to save us twice – first, when he died in our place when he died in the cross and second, when he has become the door for us to reach the Father so we could live with Him on heaven. He chose to save us so that we will have a chance to realize that we could change our ways. He let us live so that we could know that we can’t just die with regret and pierced heart.

When I remember that scene in the drama, I always think that Munyeong has a good intention as to why he saved Gangtae. And I believe, Jesus Christ has too. So I hope we never ask or doubt our Lord’s decisions and actions. He certainly has a reason we don’t understand yet or chose not to understand because we have been blinded by the pain. But whatever it is, I hope you still trust in Him.
