Maybe most of us are busy with our preparations for celebrating Christmas – from decorating our houses with parols, Christmas lights, and trees, planning and buying the ingredients needed for the Noche Buena, and buying gifts for our friends and relatives. Maybe some of us are preparing for enormous celebration but I tell you my friend, Christmas is not about how we celebrate Christmas but why we are celebrating.

“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”

Luke 2:7

“And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”

Luke 2:12

“And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.”

Luke 2:16

Remember, Mary and Joseph didn’t have a place to stay. They have no choice but to stay elsewhere where animals were staying. Jesus was not laid in a soft bed but in a manger. There was no food to eat yet the whole world rejoiced because Jesus Christ is born. Christmas is not about the food we have in our table or the number of presents we will be receiving, rather it is about Jesus Christ being born in this world.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11) So my dear friends, do not worry if you have a simple celebration as long as you know in your heart that the center of this season is Jesus Christ our Lord. And it is our central focus to rejoice and give thanks to God for this special gift He has given to us.
